About
Bakers & Larners of Holt has sat in the heart of Holt since 1770 as an independent, family-run department store with 8th and 9th generations of the Baker family actively involved in the business today.
Malcolm Baker will talk about the flexibility of this business; transitioning and combining businesses over time to develop the business into what it is today. With a varied history of change; from carpenters to brewers, agricultural seed stockists to undertakers and many more in-between! The adaptability and resilience of the family businesses has made for a rich and resilient legacy.
Join small group tours around the store, including the wine cellar, then head to CT Baker Budgens of Holt supermarket and the department stores furniture & soft furnishings department, (both a 3 mins walk away from the main dept store itself). Hear about how they have acquired and combined and extended the properties over the years to suit the development of their businesses.
