About

Visit the UK’s first family-run motorway service area with Family Business UK. Hear the story of John and Barbara Dunning who opened Tebay Services in 1972 after the M6 motorway was built through their farm. They invited the world to this once-remote stretch of Westmorland to eat a good meal, enjoy a heartfelt welcome and relish the upland landscape. Now an expansive enterprise, Westmorland Family have Motorway Service Areas in Gloucestershire on the M5, Cumbria on the M6 and Scotland on the M74.

The family farm still feeds the business and the farm heritage is very important. Whilst harnessing a desire to think innovatively, fifty years on Tebay remains a lifeline for the local community who work and trade there.

Join Sarah Dunning, Chairman and her sister Jane Lane to hear how their USP has grown the business in line with their values; to champion a wide community of farmers and makers and nurture a team of dedicated colleagues who share the family’s commitment to handmade and authentic produce
