Professional development – putting personal purpose in your plan
At their best, family enterprises offer a wonderful sense of belonging, of being connected to a long and meaningful business and relational history. Growing up in a family business, with everyday familiarity with the enterprise, can result in an easy alignment with the organisational purpose, and from this, passion and energy naturally flow.
Sometimes, however, the weight of heritage, and the focus on the collective goal, can make it harder for individual family members to unearth and follow their own personal sense of purpose. This workshop-based residential retreat will help clarify your personal ‘why’ in connection with your professional development within or outside of the family business.
The workshop will be led by family-business facilitators Sophie Baring and Edward Marriott. Through a series of structured exercises and conversations, you will:
- Reflect on your personal ‘why’
- Identify areas where professionally you would like to develop
- Create a professional development plan and how that fits with the purpose and aims of the business
- Have live experience of practising key skills and tools that you can take back into the business
- Build closer relationships with others in the Next Gen Community
The workshop will take place at The Grange Estate, Hampshire, home to the Baring family for 200 years, and there will be an opportunity to tour the estate and hear from members of the Baring family about how they have grown their business, crystallised their purpose and nurtured working relationships across the generations.
