In its simplest form, a Family Investment Company (“FIC”) is just a private company whose shareholders are family members or family trusts. The purpose of a FIC is to enable parents to retain control over the business whilst enabling future succession planning.
Whilst Trusts still play a part in estate planning, a FIC has many tax advantages over a trust.
